Planetpython.org request for comments
I am thinking about setting up PlanetPython.org to redirect to planet.python.org the official planet python. What are people's opinions on this? Do readers want this site to stay running or migrate to the official site? Please comment on this post.

Wow, I didn’t even know there was a planet.python.org, but planetpython.org is one of my most favourite sites.
Is there any difference, other than look-and-feel and where they’re hosted?

First, let me thank you for your excellent service.
As it happens, I don’t have a blog listed on planet.python and I’m guessing I’m not the only one.
So, I think it makes sense to keep planetpython at least as long as feed list on planetpython is not just a subset of the one on planet.python.
However, I’m not against moving to planet.python either and I think you should do what is best for you.

Though I’m not syndicated by your planet python (or any other planet), I have to say the planetpython.org is on my daily reading list, and I really love the site. It seems to have more blog authors than the official site, the layout is easier to read (in my opinion). Also, as someone who is paid to develop Java for a living, it’s 10 minute a day fix I really need!

I like the appearance of PlanetPython.org a lot more than the “official” planet. The underlined titles and solid black borders around the blog titles on p.p.org is just irritating and not present on most other planet sites. PlanetPython.org also seems to update more often than the official one.

It is confusing to have two different sites called Planet Python.

Keep the site running. p.p.o still doesn’t have key blogs like pje’s dirtsimple. That’s a showstopper for me.

I think one Planet Python is all we need. Up till now I haven’t subscribed to the python.org planet feed because it didn’t have all of the feeds that this one does. I presume part of redirecting would be to make sure that all of the feeds are migrated. If that’s the case, redirect away.

I don’t see much point in maintaining two quite similar Planets and since planet.python.org should be the official Planet. However, currently, I don’t pay attention to python.org’s Planet, because planetpython.org’s subscription list is better. (The maintainer of python.org unsubscribed, for no apparent reason, some Python related weblogs. Including mine.

Keep the site running in its current form – it’s much easier to read than the “official” Planet Python.

Sorry it took so long to comment, but I had to think about it for a bit.
I like the look of planetpython.org more than I like planet.python.org. Other than that, I don’t really know what the missions of either planet are. (i.e. Are both planet sites for all python-related blogs? Or are they for blogs covering python language and application development?…)
Based solely on the look, I’d prefer that planetpython.org sticks around. But that’s a very cosmetic issue that I could fix on my own if I needed to.
Other than that, it probably makes sense to redirect. Keeps everything in one basket especially where “everything” isn’t so large that it requires splitting to handle. These sites do take some time to maintain and money to operate, too.
